Why Bluefin

Point Loma was once nicknamed Tunaville. For decades, Portuguese and Italian families fished tuna out of San Diego Bay, and many of them lived on these streets.

Dr. Freitas's grandfather was one of those fishermen. The Tunaman's Memorial on Shelter Island, down the road from our office, honors that fleet.

We named the practice after the Pacific bluefin, a fish that keeps its body warmer than the ocean around it. We liked that. A dental visit should feel warm too.

Booked a Saturday cleaning online on a Thursday night. Maya texted the next morning to confirm. Rosa explained every step to my six-year-old, who now asks when we're going back.

The price on the website was the price on my bill. $395 for the exam, X-rays and cleaning, no insurance, no surprises.

Dr. Tran did my crown and it fits perfectly. Wednesday evening times fill up about two weeks out, so plan ahead if you work days.

Cracked a molar on a Monday morning, called at 8 and was in the chair by 10:30. They told me the price before touching anything.

I'm a nervous patient. Headphones, a hand signal to stop and Dr. Freitas checking in every few minutes. First cleaning in four years and it was fine.

The parking lot is small, so we usually park on Rosecrans. Worth it. The membership saves our family of four over $400 a year on cleanings.

Clear aligners with Dr. Tran, seven months start to finish. Check-ins every eight weeks and I never waited more than five minutes.

Two crowns and an implant, all estimated in writing with what my PPO would pay. The final numbers matched.
